My favorite prayer

A while back I was gifted with this prayer, “The Law of Forgiveness.” It has been very useful in challenging times. I read it slowly; each word is a word of power;  I find it  helpful to  feel deeply at a bodily conscious level the  meaning that is intended in each phrase. For example: what do we understand and feel by the words, The Law and Thy Code. I know the language seems a bit archaic however there is significant power in the cadence. Check it out on the page titled “Prayer”

Retreat on Holy Island

In April 2001 I took a seven month retreat at a Tibetan Buddhist hermitage located 30 miles west of Glasgow in the Clyde Estuary. Holy Island was approximately 2 miles long and 1/2 mile wide and had a 1000 ft rock in the middle. The community consisted of about 15 monks and nuns or recent renunciates who had given up their robes because they had fallen in love with a fellow community member. I was the only  long term guest on retreat. Whilst I was there I developed an irreverent sense of humor about my experience and my observations. I memorialized these musings in a series of emails which I sent to my  friends. For your enjoyment I have published them on the page in this blog called Holy Island.

I’ve had no trouble in being with a wide variety of people or environments. Where others have said, “I had a hard time taking the energy in that place,” I’ve been happily oblivious to any difficulties. But the past two years, this has been changing. I’ve noticed myself becoming increasingly sensitive in ways I haven’t appreciated. Going out into public spaces or being with people has been impacting me in ways I’m not used to and often leaves me tired.
